Questions about care? We’re here to help. If something doesn’t look right, send us a photo before it becomes a bigger problem.
Plants, Trees & Palms
What’s covered: We’ll replace any plant, tree, or palm that dies during its warranty period, or that we find on inspection won’t recover.
What’s normal: Almost every new plant goes through transplant shock in its first 30–90 days. Temporary leaf drop, yellowing, browning, or slow establishment is part of settling in, not plant failure. Palms commonly brown on their lowest fronds during this time.
Transplanted plants: Plants we move, including your existing plants, aren’t covered unless your proposal says otherwise. Moving a plant damages its roots, so some loss is normal.
Plants we don’t warranty: Juniper varieties (including Spartan juniper) and cypress varieties (including Italian, Leyland, and lemon cypress). These plants struggle in South Florida’s heat, humidity, and summer rain.
Watering guidelines for new plants
Use these as a starting point and adjust for your irrigation type, rainfall, and soil.
| Week | How often | Run time | Tips |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Once daily | 30 min | Add hand watering; early morning or late afternoon |
| Week 2 | Once daily | 30 min | Add hand watering; early morning or late afternoon |
| Week 3 | Once daily | 10–15 min | Add hand watering; early morning or late afternoon |
| Week 4 | 2–3 times weekly | 20–30 min | Early morning; adjust for weather |
After week 4: Continue watering twice weekly until plants are established, typically 3–6 months for shrubs and longer for trees. Water less during the rainy season (June–October).
First watering: A 15-gallon plant needs about 15 gallons of water; a 3-gallon plant needs about 3 gallons.
Pests and fertilizing
- Insect problems are covered for the first 30 days. For long-term protection, we recommend preventive care from a licensed pest control technician.
- Plants: balanced, slow-release fertilizer every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer.
- Palms: slow-release palm fertilizer 3–4 times per year.
Cold weather
South Florida’s occasional cold snaps can damage tropical plants, especially below 40°F. Before a cold night:
- Water the soil the day before. Moist soil holds heat better than dry soil.
- Cover sensitive plants with frost cloth or a sheet that reaches the ground, keeping plastic off the leaves. Remove covers the next morning.
- Move potted plants to a sheltered spot.
After a cold snap, leave damaged leaves in place until spring. They protect the plant from later cold, and many plants that look lost will regrow. Cold damage isn’t covered by warranty, and we’ll assess any cold-related decline in spring, once new growth has had a chance to appear.
Sylvester & Canary Palms: 1-Year Premium Palm Warranty
Sylvester and Canary Island date palms are statement trees, and we cover them for a full year from installation. If a covered palm dies during that year despite the preventative care, we’ll replace it, one replacement for each palm purchased. A palm is considered lost once its center spear is confirmed dead.
Preventive care
These palms need a little extra care in their first year. Keeping up with it protects both the palm and your coverage.
- Quarterly OTC injections, given by a licensed professional.
- Palm fertilizer every 3 months: slow-release 8-2-12 with nitrogen, potassium, and magnesium. Just Wow can provide this for an additional cost.
- Two bubblers at the base of each palm, installed by a licensed irrigation company, ideally within 24 hours of planting.
- No herbicides within 6 feet of the palm’s base.
- Avoid pruning or opening the palm canopy during the warranty period unless necessary.
Coverage does not apply when a palm’s decline is caused or contributed to by missed injections, missing or delayed bubblers, herbicide use near the palm, or improper pruning or canopy work.
Palm watering
| Period | Minimum water | How |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | 100 gallons per week | Bubblers on a timer, plus hand watering directly into the root ball |
| Months 2–6 | 100 gallons per week | Check soil moisture; add hand watering directly into the root ball |
Each bubbler delivers about 2 gallons per minute, so two bubblers reach 100 gallons with roughly 25 minutes of total run time per week, spread across your watering days. Bubblers should never run continuously.
Palm diseases not covered
We inspect palms for visible signs of health and disease before installation. The following diseases may develop after installation for reasons unrelated to the installation and are not covered: Ganoderma, TPPD (lethal bronzing), Fusarium wilt, and lethal yellowing.
How we review a palm claim
We’ll inspect the palm to find the likely cause. If you disagree, either of us can request a lab test. Whoever requests it pays first. If the test shows a covered failure, we’ll pay back your reasonable testing cost.
Sod Care
New sod needs frequent, light watering until it roots. Use this schedule as a starting point.
| Week | How often | Run time | Tips |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Twice daily | 10–15 min | Keep moist, not saturated; early morning or late afternoon |
| Week 2 | Twice daily | 10–15 min | Early morning or late afternoon; avoid peak heat |
| Week 3 | Once daily | 10–15 min | Early morning or late afternoon; avoid peak heat |
| Week 4 | 2–3 times weekly | 20–30 min | Early morning is best; helps prevent fungus |
After week 4: Water as needed, and water less during the rainy season (June–October). In summer, keep sod just moist to prevent fungus. Shade, temperature, humidity, and fertilizing all affect how much water sod needs.
Mowing:
- Wait at least 10 days after installation before the first mow.
- Test first: gently lift a corner of the sod. If it’s rooted and firm, it’s ready. If it lifts, wait 5–7 days and test again.
- Mow only when the grass is dry.
- Keep St. Augustine at 3–4 inches.
- Hold off on herbicides until you’ve mowed at least 3 times and 30 days have passed.
Sod terms: We install high-quality sod, but its success depends mostly on watering and weather after installation, so sod isn’t covered by a replacement warranty. Once installed, sod care is the homeowner’s responsibility. Please have new sod treated by a certified pest control company during its first 30 days.
Artificial Turf & Lighting
- Artificial turf: 3-year installation labor warranty from Just Wow, including settling or sinking. The turf material is covered by the manufacturer’s 15-year warranty. Burn marks aren’t covered.
- Lighting: 3-year labor warranty from Just Wow. Fixtures are covered by the manufacturer’s 5-year warranty.
Watering, Irrigation & Soil
The watering schedules in this guide are starting guidelines, not rigid rules. The right amount depends on your irrigation type, rainfall, soil, temperature, season, drainage, and plant type. After installation, watering is the homeowner’s responsibility, and we’re always glad to help you adjust a schedule.
- Run times in this guide are for spray heads. Rotors and drip irrigation need different run times.
- Local watering rules: Under South Florida Water Management District rules, automatic irrigation of new plantings is allowed any day except Friday during the first 30 days, before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. From day 31 to 90, it’s limited to Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Hand watering with an automatic shut-off nozzle is allowed any day. Your city or county may have stricter rules.
Coverage does not apply when plant, sod, tree, or palm loss is caused or contributed to by:
- Overwatering or underwatering
- Irrigation that is set up or programmed incorrectly, broken, turned off, or not reaching the plants, no matter who installed or manages it, including an HOA
- Watering restrictions set by the city, county, or water management district
HOA-managed irrigation: Please arrange for your irrigation company to be available on installation day and share their contact information with us. We’ll email them our recommended schedule, but we can’t adjust watering that an HOA controls.
Pool-deck planters: Just Wow isn’t responsible for planters on decking installed by a pool company.
Soil and drainage: Soil varies widely across South Florida. Sandy soils drain quickly and hold fewer nutrients, so plants may need more frequent watering and fertilizing while they establish. Rocky or compacted soils can hold water and drain poorly. Before installation, we’ll let you know if we see visibly apparent site conditions, such as standing water, that are likely to affect plant survival.
- Plant loss caused or contributed to by pre-existing standing water or poor drainage is not covered unless correcting that condition was included in the project scope.
- Decline caused or contributed to by a lack of reasonable fertilizing isn’t covered.
Warranty Service & Terms
Making a claim: Contact Just Wow as soon as reasonably possible after noticing significant decline and before the applicable warranty period ends. Early notice gives us the best opportunity to diagnose and correct the issue. Email info@justwowdesigns.com. Include your name, property address, job number, and photos. We’ll inspect within 10 business days. Because stressed plants often recover, we may wait 10–14 days before making a final determination. If a claim is denied, we’ll explain why in writing.
What a replacement includes: Approved warranty replacements include the replacement plant and standard installation labor. Replacements are the same species and comparable size, subject to availability; if an item is unavailable, we may substitute a comparable plant. Additional corrective work, drainage improvements, irrigation changes, access costs, or other work outside the original scope may be quoted separately.
Replacement coverage: Replacement plants, trees, and palms are covered for 30 days from the replacement installation date or the remainder of the original warranty period, whichever is longer. Sylvester and Canary palms are limited to one replacement per palm purchased.
Refund option: Instead of a replacement, Just Wow may refund the item’s purchase price. The purchase price is the price listed for that item in your proposal. If an item is part of bundled pricing, its refund value will be reasonably allocated based on the proposal pricing, project scope, and the item’s proportionate value within the package.
Payment: Warranty periods begin on the installation date. Just Wow may suspend warranty service while an undisputed past-due balance remains unpaid. An amount held back in good faith for an open punch-list item doesn’t suspend coverage for the rest of your project.
Natural variation: Plants are living things. Size, shape, color, and fullness vary naturally and may differ from photos, renderings, or other plants of the same type. This variation isn’t a defect.
Non-transferable: This warranty covers the property owner who signed the agreement and doesn’t transfer to future owners.
What the warranty cannot cover
Throughout this guide, “contributed to” means the problem played a real part in the loss. The warranty doesn’t cover loss or damage caused or contributed to by:
- Severe weather and natural events, including hurricanes, tropical storms, winds over 75 mph, flooding, storm surge, king tides, salt spray or saltwater intrusion, freezing or cold damage, drought, and lightning
- Vehicle accidents, vandalism, theft, or neglect
- Damage by others, including maintenance crews, mowers and string trimmers, herbicide or chemical overspray, improper pruning, or other contractors
- Wildlife and pets, including iguanas, rodents, digging, and pet urine
- The watering and irrigation conditions described above
Limits of this warranty: Just Wow’s obligation under this warranty is replacement or refund of the affected item. Just Wow isn’t liable for indirect or consequential damages, including damage to other property, loss of use, or removal costs beyond the warranted item. This doesn’t limit Just Wow’s responsibility for damage caused by our crews during installation.
